Mercy Conference and Retreat Center began its work in 1975 as a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy, St. Louis Regional Community. Housed in what was formerly the community’s motherhouse, novitiate, and junior college since the 1950s, the ministry focused on providing space and services for groups like Marriage Encounter.

Since 2008, Mercy Conference and Retreat Center has been serving guests as an independent, non-profit 501(c)3 organization, designated as a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. In 2023, we celebrate 48 years of providing hundreds of thousands of guests with a tranquil environment of hospitality and healing in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy.

Mercy Heroes Fund

At Mercy Conference and Retreat Center, we believe that when individuals are refreshed and renewed, they can renew their communities and transform our world. It is why we welcome individuals and groups into a tranquil environment of hospitality where personal, spiritual, and professional growth can occur. The Mercy Heroes Fund provides a full day, free-of-charge, at the Mercy Conference and Retreat Center for frontline healthcare workers-employees who have direct contact with patients (e.g., nurses, ER doctors, chaplains, social workers, receptionists, housekeepers, and dietary workers, etc.)  The work they do every day can be stressful, exhausting and sometimes heartbreaking.  This benefit provides them with a well-deserved respite day in a peaceful setting.  Beneficiaries of the Mercy Heroes Fund are provided with their own guest room with a private bathroom, a box lunch, and a personal greeting from the Sisters of Mercy who reside and work at Mercy Center. They also have access to the chapel, Heritage Lounge, patio, and courtyard, and the 72 beautiful, wooded acres on the campus with walking paths, a labyrinth, and pollinator garden.

Created by the Mercy High Alumni and Sisters of Mercy who purchased a $10.00 ticket to attend the Virtual All-Class Reunion via Zoom in February 2022,  When the first lottery was set up for the respite days, over 3,000 Mercy Health System frontline workers applied for this opportunity.

The event raised enough income to provide fifty frontline healthcare workers with a day at Mercy Conference and Retreat Center.

Dear Mercy High alumni:

I can't thank you enough for sponsoring the "Mercy Hero" Retreat!  I was so thrilled to be picked for this retreat.  My day was so relaxing and calm.  I had an opportunity for personal and spiritual reflection and time to put things back in perspective.  I feel refreshed and inspired!

I had never experienced walking through a labyrinth like one one on the Mercy Center grounds,  but now I can say that it was an uplifting experience.  If my backyard at home was larger, I would make a labyrinth!

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity!

Peace be with you,

Debbie
